New Delhi: The Upper House of Parliament on Friday witnessed some lighter moments during Question Hour when Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was targeted by members over his habit of gutkha consumption.
The incident occurred when Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar remarked that if the Chair desired, the concerned minister was willing to answer the question pertaining to ban on sale or use of gutkha.
It was then that BJP leader Sushma Swaraj lightly remarked that if the House was serious about banning sale and use of gutkha, it should start with searching pockets of the Shekhawat himself.
"His pockets be raided and gutkha pouches seized," she said.
Amidst peals of laughter, Pawar again made light of the moment saying the Government was willing to initiate inquiry into persons carrying gutkha.
The matter ended when the next question listed for the day was taken up.
