HYDERABAD: The state government has agreed to provide 2,000 acres of land to the Railways to complete the pending projects of laying new railway lines and building stations across the state within five years.The decision was taken at a high-level meeting between chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Union minister of state for railways K H Muniyappa at the Secretariat on Tuesday.Later speaking to reporters at the Rail Nilayam, Muniyappa said many of the ongoing works have been stopped due to nonavailability of land.He said there are five new projects costing `4,386 crore and covering 1,165 km in the state. Survey for seven more new lines has been taken up.All these projects can be completed within five years if land is made available.The state government and the railways have agreed to constitute a coordination committee comprising revenue minister Raghuveera Reddy and other officials.The committee will meet every month to review the projects.The minister said while 600 acres is needed for a freight terminal, another 300 acres is required for establishing a passenger train terminal in the twin cities.Besides, the government has also agreed to provide 55 acres of land at Warangal to set up a wagon manufacturing unit and the second phase of the MMTS project.Th e Ra i lwa y s h a s requested the government to provide land free of cost for some projects and to bear 50 per cent of the cost for some other projects like the MMTS second phase.
