New Delhi: Almost the entire country seemed to be reeling under the impact of rains. From Vidharbha in the west, Chhattisgarh to Darjeeling in the eastern part of the country, none have been spared of the lashes of the monstrous rains.

While Vidarbha in Maharashtra is experiencing incessant rains for last three days, rainfall crippled Chhattisgarh for the past 36 hours with 300 villages under water and completely isolated. Bastar has been the worst affected in the state with three national highways NH43, NH16 and NH22 completely submerged. The flood situation has been hampering the traffic significantly, hampering rescue and relief operations.

A weather bulletin from airport meteorological office said on Saturday heavy rainfall would occur at a few places in Vidarbha region during the next 24 hours.

Nagpur and Vidarbha were already experiencing heavy showers for last couple of days. The district authorities have warned the people living in low-lying areas to remain alert for possible floods.

Wainganga river in the state is flowing above the danger level after water was released from Irai dam in Chandrapur. The runway at Nagpur airport has been closed since Friday evening because of low visibility. Till now five flights have also been diverted. Tuljapur-Nagpur highway also remained shut due to rains.

Flood fury was also felt nonetheless in the east, with NH55, the lifeline of Darjeeling, disrupted again due to massive landslides, which were a result of heavy downpour on Thursday.

Gayabari area is the worst affected in the region from where the affected villagers have been shifted to nearby Jawahar Jyoti Primary School. No casualities have been reported so far.

The landslide has upset all road links from Siliguri in the foothills to various other places in Darjeeling district, with local residents complaining of poor relief and rescue operations.
