Ravanan accused of Rs one crore fraud

VELLORE: Former AIADMK councillor at the  Vellore Municipal Corporation, G G Ravi, on Friday filed a case against Sasikala’s relative Ravanan, who is already facing many charges. In his complaint to the District Crime Branch,  Ravi alleged that Ravanan had cheated him of Rs one crore, promising that he would get him a license to run a sand quarry in Palar riverbed. Ravi, presently a government contractor and also runs an engineering college in Vellore, complained that he was introduced to Ravanan in Chennai through a common friend Arumugam.  Ravi met Ravanan at a hotel in Vellore last December and handed over the money to him. Later, when Ravi met Ravanan on December 9 and enquired about the license, Ravanan demanded Rs three crore. When Ravi wanted his one crore to be returned, Ravanan allegedly threatened to attack Ravi with an iron rod.Ravi added in his complaint that since he came to know that Ravanan had cheated many people, he too decided to lodge a complaint seeking Police help to get his money back.  The district crime branch, which received the complaint, registered a case against Ravanan under section 420 (cheating) and 506/2 (criminal intimidation).
