One of the most popular flag-bearers of the Thanjavur bani exemplified by Palakkad Mani Iyer, Velukkutty Nair was noted for his flawless fingering techniques. His accompanying style was praised for being soft and non-intrusive.An excellent vocalist too, Velukkutty Nair had carved a niche for himself as a multifaceted artiste. Mridangam artiste Mavelikkara S R Raju will deliver the memorial lecture at the event to be held at Sri Chembai Smaraka Hall on August 24 at 6 pm.The event will also coincide with the 26th anniversary of the cultural organisation that seeks to promote Carnatic music. It has instituted various awards to honour vocal and instrumental artistes and has striven to emulate the work done by the music ‘sabhas’ in Chennai to patronise the South Indian classical genre.The function will be followed by the ‘single-raga concert’ conducted by the sabha  from the start of the year. Varkala C S Jayaram will render six kritis in raga Dheera Sankarabharanam, including two Swathi Thirunal kritis. Muttara B N Raveendran will accompany on violin, Nanchil Arul on mridangam, Ennakkad Maheswar on ghatam and V V Vinod on tampura.
