BANGALORE: The Director General of Police of CID, Rupak Kumar Datta, who submitted a report on the riots at City Civil Court on March 2, has mentioned that the DCP of central division failed to handle the situation despite reports from intelligence that advocates would attack media persons. “The report held the local DCP responsible for not handling the situation efficiently though he was informed about the possibility of the attack. It says that the DCP had not made adequate preparations and which is why, the situation went out of control,” sources said, adding, “The DGP also stated that the DCP had not made arrangements for reporters on the court premises, and observed that the incident could have been averted if the police had specified a place for the media on the court premises.” “Also, though lathi-charge orders were issued, it was not circulated among senior officers and policemen, especially police constables were in confusion whether they had to baton charge the advocates or not. Even in this case, there were lapses on the part of top officers and this also intensified the fight between police and advocates,” sources explained.
