Rice, wheat at subsidised rates

KOCHI: In view of the Onam season, the Central Government has allotted 54,000 tonnes of rice at the rate of Rs 11.85 and 27,000 tonnes of wheat at the rate of Rs 8.45 to Kerala.Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution KV Thomas said that the allotment was made considering the need during the Onam season.The minister further said in New Delhi that while granting rice and wheat at such a subsidised rate, it will be the Central Government which meets the expenses of Rs 47.73 crore for rice and Rs 19.86 crore for wheat.
