KOCHI: With a laskar getting injured while he was on duty aboard a Kerala State Water Transport Department (KSWTD) boat, the row between the KSWTD and the Kerala Tourism Boat Operators has escalated, with the KSWTD alleging that the injury was caused by a private boat on Monday night. Both parties have approached the police and filed complaints against each other. According to the KSWTD authorities, the tourism boat operators have been creating nuisance to them during the past few months, by berthing private boats at the boat jetty which was supposedly off limits to them.“During the last one month, the situation has worsened. The private boat operators deliberately bring their boats too close to the jetty, hitting the KSWTD boats in the process. We have been forced to file a complaint against them,” said Joseph Xavier, Ernakulam Boat Jetty Superintendent. On the other hand, members of the Ernakulam Boat Jetty Tourist Boat Operators Association have filed a complaint with the police stating that the KSWTD was defaming them through fabricated stories.Their complaint comes in the wake of reports that a private boat was responsible for Monday’s accident in which the laskar was injured.
