HYDERABAD: If the liquor and cash seized by the police in the recent times is any indication, the bypolls for 18 Assembly constituencies and a Lok Sabha constituency in 12 districts is likely to set a record of sorts. Even before the notification is released for the byelections, the police seized about Rs 7 crore in cash and nearly 89,000 litres of illicit liquor.Notwithstanding the stringent police vigil and the ACB raids on liquor syndicates, liquor and cash were never available so easily for public during bypolls in these districts.While the highest amounts of cash seizures were reported in Chittoor and Kurnool districts with Rs 1.17 crore and Rs 1.11 crore respectively, the largest quantity of illicit liquor of 39,103 litres and 26,641 litres was seized in West Godavari and Chittoor districts.Official sources admit that the actual cash in circulation and liquor of various brands being distributed could be easily five to six times more than that was seized by the police so far.They are confident that the cash seizures could set a record as Rs 7 crore has been eized even before the notification is issued, while the entire cash seizures during the previous bypolls in Telangana region were Rs 10 crore at the end.
