Sakleshpur student ends life in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A PhD student of BITS Pilani, Thimmappa Manjushetty (30), reportedly committed suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of a building on the campus in Jawaharnagar Mandal under Alwal police station limits here on Thursday.Preliminary investigation led the police to believe that it could be a case of love failure.Manjushetty, hailing from Sakleshpur in Karnataka, was doing his PhD in Pharmacy and was about to complete it in a couple of months. According to Alwal inspector J Pushpan Kumar, Manjushetty, who had gone out of the hostel, returned to the campus on Wednesday night and went straight to his room without speaking to any one. “Many of the hostel inmates had gone home as it was vacation time. There were only a few students staying on the campus,” Kumar said. On Thursday morning, the workers who were sweeping the premises found Manjushetty’s body near Buddha Bhavan Block, which is adjacent to Gandhi Bhavan block where the deceased was staying. “We suspect he might have jumped from the fourth floor of the block,” Kumar said. Police said they were yet to question other hostel inmates, his friends and family members.“The family members are yet to reach the city,” the inspector said. The police would be verifying the call details of Manjushetty’s mobile phone, he said and added that they were also trying to find out whether Manjushetty met any one after he left the campus on Wednesday evening.Sources said, Manjushetty had earlier studied in BITS Pilani in Rajasthan, and came here for his PhD. “He was good at academics,” the police said. Manjushetty’s friends said he was interested in body building. Manjushetty’s body was taken to the Gandhi General Hospital for post mortem which would be conducted on Friday after his parents arrive in the city.Police have registered a case under Section 174 of IPC (suspicious death).
