New Delhi: There will be no dream run by Sania Mirza at the French Open.
The World Number 50 was brought crashing down to earth by Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in the second round at Roland Garros in straight sets 1-6 4-6 on Thursday.
The World No. 7 was in a dominant mood from the very beginning and broke Sania as early as the second game of the match; moving her around court giving her little chance to unleash her big strokes.
There were flashes of brilliance from Sania like a forehand moving well across the court and picking it of the net. But these were few and far between as the Serbian took charge. Invanovic won the first set with an ace in just 23 minutes....
The second set began well for Sania. She held on to her serve for the first eight games; again putting her strong forehand on display. But the unfazed Serbian broke her when it mattered in the ninth game.
Soon it was all over. Ivanovic went on to serve the match out. A backhand winner broke the hopes of Indian tennis fans.
