CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Cyber Cell of the State police department to find out the genuineness of the ‘bribe-tapes’ containing the alleged conversation between Kanchi Mutt senior pontiff Jayendra Saraswathi and the Puducherry Sessions Judge T Ramaswami, before whom the Sankararaman murder case was pending. A division bench comprising Justices K N Basha and N Paul Vasanthakumar gave the direction on Monday while disposing of a writ petition from advocate P Sundararajan. Jayendrar is the main accused in the murder case. The petition prayed for a direction to the HC Registrar (Vigilance) to register an FIR on his complaint dated August 18 last year and submit a report about the alleged bribe-tapes and the financial transactions discussed and if the report confirmed payment of bribes to the trial judge by Jayendrar, then to order a re-trial of the case.Since the trial judge Ramaswamy had been ordered to be transferred from Puducherry to Perambalur, there was no question of ordering re-trial in the case, the bench said.If the purported conversation between the accused and the judge was proved to be true, serious action should be taken. If the allegation was found to be baseless, the culprits were to be traced and dealt with an iron hand in accordance with law, the judges said.
