Ex-Pak PM requests Pakistan govt not to hang Sarbjit on humanitarian ground.

New Delhi: In a news that could renew hope for Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner on death row in Pakistan, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has said he should not be hanged.

The former Pakistan prime minister has requested the Pakistan government not to hang Sarbjit on humanitarian grounds.

However, Sharif’s appeal comes with a rider. He has said he should be released conditionally and in case concrete evidence is found against him, he should be sent back to Pakistan.

He seems keen to swap Pakistani prisoners of war in exchange of Sarabjit.

Former Human Rights Minister of Pakistan Ansar Burney said he this is a very good sign.

“It’s a very good sign. Former Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is saying that Sarabjit should be released. I appeal to the Indian government in the interests of human dignity and human rights, make some statement about Pakistanis in Indian prisons. I have sent a third reminder to the Pakistani President and PM. We hope to hear something in the next two days,” he said.
