NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking a declaration of the demand for Telangana as unconstitutional. The petitioner S Rama Chandra Rao, who appeared in person, also made the union home minister P Chidambaram a party. He told a bench comprising chief justice S H Kapadia, justice K S Radhakrishnan and justice Swatanter Kumar that the apex court should issue a direction imposing an immediate stay on the Srikrishna Committee Report. He said that the court should issue orders to the government of Andhra Pradesh to act stringently and impartially to control the situation and take action against those who are demanding a separate state.He also sought action against the leaders of Telangana region and urged the court and the government not to take the situation lightly as it will jeopardize the lives of lakhs of people in Hyderabad. With those averments, he sought a declaration from the apex court to declare the demand for a separate Telangana as unconstitutional.Rama Chandra Rao also requested the bench to ensure maintenance of peace among the people of the state. However, the chief justice told the petitioner that the petition was premature and hence dismissed.
