BANGALORE: Sticking to the promises made, does not seem to be the style of the working of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as the situation of the park situated on the Kanakpura Main Road in the locality of Jaraganahalli deteriorates day by day with no light to be seen at the end of the long, dark tunnel.City Express had published a report on the state of the park on 26 July titled ‘Deep seated’ and broken matters in Jaraganahalli’.While most BBMP parks across the city pride themselves on the coloured benches that are installed, this particular one has concrete blocks, broken seats greeting the visitor to the park. While in most parks, the backrest is used to rest and relax, here, the fence of the park acts as the support indicating the pathetic state of affairs that the park has been left to.Overgrown grass and weeds act as the obstructions in the visitor’s path.Residents say that the presence of insects and other animals lurking in the grass strikes fear in them.Sudheendra G, a resident, said, “The concerned BBMP officials had assured us that the benches would be repaired within two to three days. But nothing has been done yet.” Many residents say that the condition of the park was much better a month ago than it is now showing the ‘development’ that the area has been witnessing. An elderly citizen, on the condition of anonymity, said, “The whole point of a park is to get away form everyday life, exercise and stay fit.But none of the above mentioned activities can be undertaken here.It gives the appearance on a jungle.” The chief engineer for Bomannahalli zone, AM Nayak, handed out assurances once again despite not keeping to any of his previous promises. He said, “I will ask my engineers and officials to look into the matter immediately.” As the whole game of complaints and oaths continue, the elderly citizens ask how long would they have to continue living this nightmare.
