After they brought her back from Bangalore, the police decided to register separate complaints from all the men whom she had loved, married and cheated, in police stations closest to where they lived. As a result, four separate cheating cases were registered against her at Mangadu, Vepery, Pulianthope and Mambalam. Most of the personnel that comprised the police team which nabbed her have voiced their surprise at how calm and composed she is — almost as if she is enjoying the media attention surrounding her arrest. “Initially we suspected that she might have had an accomplice helping her net all these men,” revealed a police source. “But we have come to realize that she worked solely alone and did not trust people around her. This is probably because her first ‘husband’ in Kerala betrayed her early on in life.”Another rather curious facet that all the four inspectors investigating the cheating cases have uncovered is that she never changed her name with any of the men. “With the number of men she has been with, she could have easily changed identities. Yet she chose to keep her name even when she married them,” said one of the investigating officials.Acting on a rather well-rounded guess that she was with child, police took her for a medical exam at the Kasturba Gandhi Government Hospital at Triplicane on Monday. “It came to light that she was with child and was due in about 3-4 months. After this she was taken back to the women’s prison at Puzhal,” said a police official who is investigating the case. Incidentally, she is believed to have told the cops that the child’s father was Prasanna, from Pulianthope — one of the last few men that she married. To verify who the father of the child is, the cops are mulling over asking all the husbands and boyfriends for DNA samples to conduct a paternity test. Sources have indicated that most of them are squeamish about this, while Prasanna has downright refused.first published:September 04, 2012, 10:13 ISTlast updated:September 04, 2012, 10:13 IST
