Kochi: The Italian navy guards of Enrica Lexie on Tuesday moved the Kerala High Court and filed a plea to quash the FIR against the two accused in the fishermen killing case. Sources said that a senior Supreme Court lawyer is likely to represent them.
Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi on Tuesday said, "The Italian Government is working at every level with the Indian Government, it's a dialogue between myself and the Foreign Minister, it's a dialogue with the other Ministers at both Federal and State level, the State of Kerala. It's a very unfortunate situation because we have this military servicemen who were acting to prevent piracy, they were acting in international waters."
The two Italian marines were part of a security detachment assigned to protect the merchant vessel Enrica Lexie from attacks in the Indian Ocean when the incident happened.
Two fishermen, Ajesh Binki, 25, from Tamil Nadu and Gelastine, 45, from Kerala, were allegedly mistaken as pirates and shot dead by the crew of the Italian cargo vessel, about 14 nautical miles off Alappuzha.
