Shooter Ronjan Sodhi reclaims No. 1 spot
Sodhi managed to go back on top of the double trap rankings by successfully defending his World Cup title.

New Delhi: Asian Games gold medallist shooter Ronjan Sodhi reclaimed the top spot in double trap rankings after he became the first Indian to successfully defend his World Cup title at Al Ain earlier this month.

Sodhi, who had slipped to No. 8 spot after the World Championships in September, had pipped China's Hu Binyuan in a nail-biting tie-breaker to win the gold in the double trap event.

The new ranking caps a fine year for the shooter, who impressed one and all with his triumph at the Asian Games in Guangzhou last year.

Sodhi won back-to-back World Cup medals at the Beijing and Maribor and also fetched an Olympic qualification spot for India in the double trap.

His consistent run also saw him recently being named FICCI's sportsperson of the year.

"It is good to be back in the top three. The sport of double trap is extremely competitive and the results over the last year show that even one competition can see a total upheaval in the order," Sodhi said.

"My aim over the last few years has been to achieve a level of consistency in my shooting that will keep me in contention for a podium finish at every competition I shoot.

"I am happy that my average over the last 26 international competitions is 142.6/150 and as long as I continue to maintain those levels, the results will come.

"I am focused on winning India its second Olympic medal in double trap and along with my team, have already chalked out a road map that will hopefully see me peak at London next year," the shooter insisted.
