No specifications or pricing of these phones have been disclosed till now.

New Delhi: Spice Mobile is planning to launch Android Ice Cream Sandwich based phones soon, a person close to the development told 'The Mobile Indian'.

Though no specifications or pricing of these phones have been disclosed till now, according to our source Spice will launch around five devices majority of which will be based on Android 4.0 operating system.

If indeed Spice launches these phones in this month, as is being claimed by our source, Spice Mobile (SMobility) will become the first Indian brand to launch an Android ICS based phone in India.

Though there are many Android ICS based low cost tablets in the country, there are only a couple of phones currently available with Android 4.0 including handsets from HTC and Sony. Other phones have like Samsung Galaxy Note, and Sony Ericsson Xperia series have recently started getting Android 4 update.

Spice has many firsts to its credit in the Indian market which include first dual SIM Android phone, first Android phone without 3G etc.

Going by the track record of Spice Mobile, these phones are expected in the budget range. Till date their costliest phone was Spice Mi 410 which was priced at Rs 14,000. Given that that phone didn't do too well in the Indian market, Spice is likely going to price the new phones below that.

Given that Android 4.0 requires basic processor speed of 1 GHz, these phones are likely to sport processor which are either faster than that or at least will be of 1 Ghz.

There have been several instances when Indian brands were not able to launch what they promised and therefore we are keeping our fingers crossed for this one too.

What's your reaction?
