To celebrate the event, an idol of the Srinivasa Perumal or Lord Vishnu, was brought from Tirupati to Puducherry in Srinivasa Kalyana Rath.

An annual Sri Srinivasa Perumal Thirukalyanam Utsavam was held in a helipad ground in Pudhuvai, Puducherry. According to Local 18 Tamil, this event was marked with many priests chanting the Vedic mantras. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam and Srivari Thirukalyana Seva Trust have jointly organised this event.

To celebrate the event, an idol of the Srinivasa Perumal or Lord Vishnu was brought from Tirupati to Puducherry in Srinivasa Kalyana Rath. This ceremony was followed by the devotees seeking blessings in a special event held at the grounds of the private school campus theatre in Lawspet, Puducherry. After this, a Suprabhatam service was held. For those who don’t know, Suprabhatam is a Sanskrit prayer of the Suprabhātakāvya genre.

After the completion of the Suprabhatam service, abhishekam (ceremonial bathing of a deity) and Thomala seva (decorating the presiding deity with exquisitely tied colourful floral and Tulasi garlands) were held. Kolu tradition (a prominent feature of Navaratri in Tamil Nadu) and Deeparathana (lighting a lamp) were also held for Lord Srinivasa Perumal or Lord Vishnu. Thousands of devotees took part in the event and had the darshan of the deity with the name Govinda Govinda being chanted repeatedly.

Tirumala, Tirupati Devasthan Executive Officer Shyamala Rao also participated in the event. Tamil Nadu-Puducherry Coordinator Shekhar Reddy and Srivari Thirukalyana Seva Trust leaders and administrators were other important dignitaries in the programme. The heavy rains could not dampen the enthusiasm of the devotees who paid their respects to the Lord.

The administration had made many arrangements for the convenience of the devotees. These arrangements included free buses which helped the devotees go from Puducherry Bus Station to Lawspet Helipad Ground for Thirukalyanam Utsavam. Police personnel were also deployed for security. More than 5,000 devotees participated in the Thirukalyanam Utsavam and worshipped Lord Srinivasa Perumal or Lord Vishnu. The event was concluded with the distribution of prasad to all the devotees.

Earlier, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Thirukalyanam Utsavam could not be held due to the coronavirus pandemic for 2 years. The Srinivasa Kalyanam tells the fascinating story behind the marriage of Lord Sri Venkateswara(also called Lord Vishnu) with Goddess Padmavathi.
