SAMBALPUR: The State Advisor to the Commission of Supreme Court on Right to Food Rajkishore Mishra on Tuesday said that death of Siba Naik (65) of Chubkadadar village and Kapila Hans (65) of Gobindpur village, both in Tribanpur gram panchayat under Rairakhol block of the district, was due to starvation. Mishra told mediapersons here after two-day visit and interaction with the bereaved families and villagers that the two were unable to do any work and collect food. He also said both the families were deprived of any government welfare schemes. Many other villagers like the two are yet to get any benefit of welfare schemes launched for the poor, he added. Mishra accompanied by three others from the office of State Advisor _ Asima Choudhury, Bijayini Mohanty and Sambhu Sahu _ visited Govindpur and Tribanpur on Monday to ascertain facts. They interacted with government officials including Sambalpur Additional District Magistrate Madhab Chandra Bariha, Rairakhol Sub-Collector Ananta Kumar Bhuiyan, Emergency Officer Sailendra Jena and Rairakhol Additional Block Development Officer (ABDO) R N Chakraborty on Tuesday over extension of government schemes to the beneficiaries.Earlier on July 13, a team from the State Advisor, comprising Sambhu Sahu and Asima Choudhury, had visited the village to ascertain facts after Siba Naik reportedly died of starvation on July 8. They also spoke to the Sarpanch and the Panchayat Executive Officer. The villagers told the team that they had raised the issue of Siba Naik in Palli Sabha and Gram Sabha and even intimated the Sarpanch but to no avail.The team visited Rairakhol to ascertain facts after Kapila Hans (65) of Gobindpur died of starvation on July 26.Like Siba Naik, Kapila was not enlisted in the BPL list and deprived of all welfare schemes including the old age pension.
