State against Kannada schools

MYSORE: Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekar Kambar called upon people to protest against the state government decision to close down Kannada schools. He lamented that the government itself is encouraging English medium schools by shutting down Kannada schools.Kambar, who was in the city to receive an honour at a programme organised by the Vishwakarma community, said that they have asked the government to reconsider its decision. “They have not responded to our repeated appeals, hence we have decided to move court, questioning the order,” he said.Kambar said that the state is exhibiting its pro-English stance by inviting applications for opening English schools. “On September 24, the state had taken steps to close down 590 lower primary schools and 27 higher primary schools which have less than five students with immediate effect.
