BANGALORE: A city girl bagged first rank in medical and dental branches of Consortium of Medical, Engineering and DentalKarnataka (COMEDK) 2011, although first rank in engineering went to a Mumbai lad.
Prerana N from Bangalore got the top ranks in medical and dental streams and Arjun Rao from Mumbai stood first in engineering stream. COMEDK's results were announced on Monday. Srikanth A S, Chief Executive Officer of COMEDK, said Karnataka students had bagged eight out of the top 10 ranks in engineering. In medical and dental, nine out of the top ranks have gone to Karnataka students.Srikanth said this year COMEDK had changed question pattern because coaching institutes had mastered the art of cracking objective questions and had passed on the information to students. He said COMEDK wanted to discourage rote learning and had thus set such a question paper wherein students had to apply analytical thinking to crack the questions.

This year 67,762 candidates had appeared for the exam, which was held on May 8.

The exam was conducted at 105 exam centres across the state for admissions to 30 per cent of the total engineering seats, 40 per cent of total medical seats and 60 per cent dental seats in private professional colleges in Karnataka.
