BANGALORE: To give impetus to the working force in the Excise Department, the state government has planned to establish an Excise Acadamy at Sira taluk in Tumkur district, Karnataka Excise Minister M P Renukacharya informed here on Friday.
Addressing newsmen after chairing a meeting of the officers of the Bangalore rural and urban districts here, the minister said that the proposed academy, which would be the first of its kind in the country, will be built on line with the Police academy.He said that the academy will house a training centre, conference halls and hostel facilities will also be utilised to host reorientation programme to the existing staff.

The minister said that state government has released over Rs100 crore to modernise its forces involved in the eradication of the menace of illicit brewing and supply network in the state. "Excise inspectors and guards would be armed with GPS facility, better vehicles, wireless sets and modern weapons.
