A student, 25, was stopped at Mumbai airport on Thursday while waiting to board a flight to Singapore after immigration officials discovered four missing pages in her passport.

The student, identified as SS Ghatol, is a first-year fashion merchandising student travelling to Singapore on a tourist visa for an internship sponsored by her Worli-based institute.

According to a report by The Times of India, Ghatol had allegedly removed four pages from her passport to conceal a trip to Thailand she took from February 11 to 14 of this year.

She had falsely claimed illness to her institute to seek an exemption from an exam during that period, said a police officer.

Assistant Immigration Officer Sujit Patil noted that Ghatol was concerned her deception would be uncovered when her institute requested her passport after she was shortlisted for the Singapore internship.

Ghatol has been charged with cheating and violations under the Passport Act.
