MYSORE: In a bid to handle the rush of tourists during the world famous Dasara festivities, the Mysore Division of South Western Railway has planned to operate additional trains, run additional counters and create additional facilities, including health care centre, at the Mysore City Railway Junction.Daily passenger inflow at the Mysore Junction, which is normally 25,000, is expected to rise to 50,000 during Dasara.All eight ticket counters at the railway station will be operated round the clock for two weeks. While three counters will operate at night, additional ticket counters will be operated in Chamrajapuram, Nanjangud and Chamrajnagar railway station.Nanjangud which usually receives 4,500 passengers per day is expecting a daily rush of 6,000 passengers. The railways are keen on opening unreserved ticket counters from October 1 to 10 at Kuvempu Nagar railway reservation counter. The number of passenger reservation counters has been increased from three to four at Mysore Junction.Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu said that the public can book unreserved and reserved tickets from the five Janasahay booking seva centres at Gokulam, Kuvempunagar, Chamundipuram and Udayagiri.He said that the division which registers a 10 to 15 per cent jump in ticketless travelling will step up vigilance during the festivities. “Platform tickets will not be issued on October 6 and 7, due to the heavy rush on Vijayadashmi and the next day after Dasara festivities.”Also, it has been decided to attach two additional bogies to all trains operating between Bangalore and Mysore, Mysore and Chamrajanagar and Mysore and Arsikere and increase ladies compartments in the trains.The railways have decided to deploy additional Railway Protection Force personnel, install door frame metal detectors, have dog squads and keep a close watch on parcel services.
