Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman's personal secretary is likely to turn approver in the Tehelka expose case.

New Delhi: Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman's personal secretary is likely to turn approver in the Tehelka expose case, in which both are among the accused, and record a statement before a magistrate.

The secretary, Satyamurthy, is expected to make a statement alleging that back dated entries were made in the BJP's account books to accommodate Rs one lakh allegedly taken by Laxman from representatives of a fictitious weapons firm, they said.

The sources said Satyamurthy had expressed his willingness to record his confessional statement before a magistrate, after which the CBI would move the court for permission to make him an approver in the case.

Satyamurthy is one of the accused in the case, registered by the CBI on December six, 2004, against Laxman and another secretary of his, Venkatesh Raju, after Laxman was shown by Tehelka web portal allegedly taking a bribe from representatives of a fictitious London-based arms company.

Satyamurthy was accused by the CBI of having received a gold chain from representatives of the company and also subsequently following up the matter and attempting to obtain further payments.

The secretary had told investigators that Laxman allegedly fudged the BJP's account books to accommodate the payment received from the fictitious firm, as he had claimed after Tehelka's sting operation that the money was meant for party funds, the sources said.
