BANGALORE: Come September 8, thousands of alumni members of M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) from various parts of the country will come to Bangalore to celebrate its 50 glorious years of service in education. The MSRIT, established in 1962 under the aegis of Gokula Education Foundation by the great visionary M S Ramaiah, continues to impart quality education to students. “In these 50 years, MSRIT has churned out 50,000 meritorious students,” says his son, M R Seetharam, director, MSRIT.It was late Ramaiah’s quest to provide quality education that made him embark on this mission. Ramaiah, a civil contractor, wanted to give options to the youth, as he was deprived of good avenues due to poverty when he was young. “My father studied only till class 6 since my grandfather could not afford to pay school fees. My father worked in a laboratory for a mere `5 per month. Later he became a civil contractor and started Gokul Education Foundation with the money he earned as a civil contractor,” narrates Seetharam.Step into the MSRIT campus, and the greenery and cleanliness and countless buildings will overpower you. MSRIT is the one and only private institution to have such a vast campus. “Our institution is the first autonomous UG and PG institute in the private sector in the country,” says Seetharam. The USP of MSRIT is the capacity and ability to cater to the needs of students from different states. It was said that majority of the students of MSRIT were from Andhra Pradesh and Kerala till 1972. “The hallmark of MSRIT is our determination to ensure quality education for the students. It made our institution popular not only in the country but also globally,” explains Seetharam. The other advantage of MSRIT is the placement and training department that fulfils the valid aspirations of students. Counselling on placements and higher studies in India and abroad is given regularly to the students. “We offer 100 per cent placement for those students. Around 150 top companies in the country visit our campus every year to recruit students. Many of our students are working in top companies in the country and abroad,” says Seetharam. They also provide scholarships to meritorious students from economically backward families. “We offer scholarships to 300 students every year. We also extend financial assistance through M S Ramaiah Charitable Trust. Many of our old students, who have made it big in life, have also been sponsoring scholarships,” he says. Former president A P J Abdul Kalam is expected to inaugurate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of MSRIT on September 8. Governor H R Bharadwaj will be preside over the function. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will release the souvenir.
