CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a thief decamped with the gold jewels, including the ‘thali’, of a bride on the eve of her marriage at a wedding hall in Thirumullavoyal on Saturday. Much to the relief of the girl’s parents, the marriage, however, went ahead without hiccup on Sunday. Sources said the marriage reception of R Nithyasharma and P Srikanthan was in full swing, with relatives and friends swarming the marriage hall to greet the couple on Saturday evening. The bride’s gold ornaments, including the ‘thali’, weighing about 20 sovereigns were placed in a bag and kept in her room. Later, when her father Rajendran, a harbour employee, went to pick up the bag, he found the clothes astray and the jewels missing. When a search proved futile, he lodged a complaint with the Avadi Police and senior officers arrived at the scene and conducted an inquiry. They also scanned the video footage of the festivities.
