Lok Sabha Elections 2024, phase 1, is all set to kickstart on April 19. It will occur in seven phases. The results will be announced on June 4. The polls in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 19. Election is one of the most important events in a democratic country so that the citizens can choose a leader of their choice. But, how will people know about their leaders and who is contesting from which constituency?
In elections, 100 per cent voter registration is important. It is also important to choose the right candidate and vote for them. A majority of the people vote without knowing about the candidate contesting the elections. As voters, it is our right to select a representative who can voice the concerns of the citizens in the Parliament and find solutions for them.
A few important things every voter must be aware of are- who is the candidate and from which constituency are they contesting? What is the worth of their property? Which town do they belong to? Do they have any criminal records? Or was the candidate ever found guilty and convicted in any case? This will help in selecting the right representative. Before elections, a candidate has to mention all the above information in their nomination form submitted to the Election Commission.
The voters can check this basic information on the Election Commission website – https://affidavit.eci.gov.in to check the affidavit. After you visit the site, and mention the parliamentary constituency, you will be able to see a list of candidates who have filed nomination papers, and how many were selected or rejected so far for the upcoming elections.
You will further find a list of names of candidates, and if you click on them, it will provide complete details regarding them and a copy of the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission.
