THOOTHUKUDI: Both VOC Port staff and the public offered their tributes to the slain port official P Pathiran, who died in the bomb blast that occurred at Delhi High Court on September 7.Pathiran (57), who worked as a superintendent engineer in the Civil Engineering Department of VOC Port Trust, was the nodal Officer of the PPP Projects of the port. He was deputed on official duty to Delhi to assist the Legal Advisor on a case filed against the Ministry of Shipping, VOC Port Trust in the Delhi HC on September 7. In the blast, Pathiran sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, where he succumber later on Thursday.Consequently, his body was airlifted from Delhi and was brought to Chennai, from where it was moved to his native place Alwarkarkulam near Srivaikundam by road. As soon as the body arrived in Alwarkarkulam around 9.45 am on Saturday, the crowd gathered in the village burst into tears. VOC Port Trust Chairman A Subbiah and port trustees paid tribute to the departed official and consoled the family members. Pathiran is survived by his wife Vadivu Rani and two kids. His son Pradeep Santhosh is doing his ME Engineering at Chennai and his daughter Pathra Visu alias Visalatchi is married and settled at Palayamkottai. The Port Trust Chairman gave away a cheque for `4 lakh to Pradeep Santhosh on behalf of Shipping Minister GK Vasan. The Port Trust Chairman added that steps would be taken to offer a Government job to his son. Later, his body was cremated at Alwarkarkulam.
