Rajasthan government on Monday assured the state Assembly that firing incident inside the Sikar jail would be investigated properly.
on Sunday, a notorious criminal Raju Theth was shot at by another inmate Subhas Moond inside the Sikar jail.
Panchayti Raj and Rural Development Minister Gulab Chand Kataria assured the House that the government will conduct a fair probe and responsibility will be fixed in the matter. "This is a serious matter. It will be thoroughly investigated and responsibility will be fixed," Kataria said.
Earlier, National People's Party MLA Kirori Meena raised the issue during Zero Hour demanding a reply from the government as to how a weapon reached inside the jail. "This is a very serious issue that a criminal is shot by another criminal inside Jail. How they can have access to weapon?" Meena said, while claiming that one criminal lodged in Sewar jail was in touch with Subhas Moond in Sikar jail for attack on Raju Theth.
Later, Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi and other Congress legislatures including Pradhyuman Singh and Govind Singh Dodasara also said that firing in a jail was a serious matter and the government should pay attention to it.
Theth, who received bullets near mouth and shoulder, was admitted to SMS hospital where the bullets have been removed. He was shifted to cardiothoracic unit of the hospital and is in stable condition, the hospital sources said.
Sikar Superintendent of Police Haidar Ali Zaidi said that the accused has been arrested on FIR filed by the Sikar jail authorities.
Udyog Nagar Station House Officer Rajendra Singh Rawat informed that the pistol used in the firing, along with ten live cartridges has been recovered from the jail.
When contacted, Inspector General, Jail, Nisar Ahmed Farooqui said that the department has already ordered an inquiry by a DIG rank official.
