SRIKAKULAM: Two workers (helpers) and a chemist are in a critical condition after a fire mishap in G block of Aurobindo Pharma Unit of Pydibheemavaram industrial unit at Ransthalam in the district in the wee hours of Monday. Sources said while workers were washing trays of a dryer with solvents supervised by the chemist, the dryer wherein drug material is classified before it goes to packaging caught fire. Consequently, chemist M Veerraju received 85 per cent burn injuries while two helpers K Ramappadu and Mohan Nayak sustained 70 per cent burns. The fire was eventually brought under control by cutting off the power supply at the block. The management of the company did not reveal any further details about the incident.
The trio, belonging to Vizianagaram district, were rushed to Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Srikakulam where doctors instead referred them to the Seven Hills Hospital in Visakhapatnam. "Since the condition of all the three was critical, they have been kept in Intensive Critical Unit of Seven hills. Doctors told us that unless they are respond to treatment in the next 72 hours, their condition is critical," Central Industrial Trade Union District President Govinda Rao told Express.
