BANGALORE: You may not see any pourakarmikas with brooms in Bangalore soon. Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning to implement complete mechanised sweeping across the city. BBMP is looking for mechanised sweeping technology for arterial roads which has more vehicle population.It can be recalled that on January 1,2012, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike had taken this as a pilot project to clean M G Road and Brigade Road. By using hi-tech mechanised sweeping machines, BBMP was able to clear garbage easily that was collected on account of New Year revelry. “After, its success, we have decided to include mechanised sweeping as a mandatory clause before awarding the contracts to interested parties,” an official said. According to a senior official, these machines cost Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakh each and may prove to be a heavy investment for the contractors.
