KOCHI: Expressing solidarity with Yuvraj Singh in his fight against cancer, Kochi’s own international cricketers Tinu Yohannan and S Sreesanth believe that their teammate of several matches will come out of it a stronger person.Having seen the effervescent nature of the left-hander from close quarters, Tinu, Kerala’s first Test cricketer, told Express on Tuesday that Yuvraj’s positive attitude would stand him in good stead during the difficult period.“Yuvraj is a very positive person.I am sure he has seen it as a challenge and would get well soon,” said Tinu from Chennai where he plays for Chemplast Sanmar in the Chennai League.Admitting that he was shocked by the revelation, the fast bowler said, “It was a big shock to know that Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer, especially at such a young age.But the news that his disease can be cured has been comforting for the cricket fraternity here.The issue, naturally, comes up during dicussions but everyone who knows Yuvraj believe that he will defeat the disease.” Meanwhile, S Sreesanth’s 29th birthday passed off without any celebrations at his residence here on Monday.Sreesanth, currently recuperating from inflammation oh his big toe, had instructed his family to avoid festivities, the speedster’s mother Savithri Devi told Express.“Yuvi is a very good friend of Sreesanth.He called us to say that there was no need to celebrate his birthday this time,” Savithri Devi said.“Sree was distressed by the news.But he said that Yuvi would fight the disease with a positive attitude.” She also said that it was the first Sreesanth birthday to have gone without a celebration in the household.“We have celebrated every birthday so far.This time, I just went to the temple and prayed for their health,” she said.Sreesanth had played under Yuvipa, as the former calls Yuvraj, in the King’s XI Punjab side in the inaugural edition of IPL.
