HYDERABAD: The arrest of TNGO president K Swami Goud in Hyderabad on Friday fuelled tensions across Telangana region as the government employees along with proTelangana activists went on to stage rasta rokos and dharnas protesting against the police action. Though Swami Goud was later released on a personal bond, the employees vowed to intensify their agitation and make the government pay for its action.
In a dramatic turn of events, Swami Goud was arrested by the police while he was on his way to address a dharna organised by the Gandhi Hospital employees on Friday afternoon. He was obstructed by the police before entering the Gandhi Hospital and was taken to the Chilakalguda police station. The police claimed that they arrested him suspecting that he would make a provocative speech at the meeting.
Learning about the incident, a large number of employees, teachers and students along with political party leaders rushed to the Chilakalguda police station. They tried to storm the police station but the police closed the gates preventing them from entering the police station premises. Irked over this, the agitators staged a sitin in front of the police station demanding release of Swami Goud immediately. TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram, who came to know about the arrest, rushed to the police station. The TRS chief reportedly took up the matter with the senior police authorities following which the police released Swami Goud on a personal bond.He said the state government had done a grave mistake by arresting him and it would pay for it. He said the movement would be further intensified until their goal is achieved.
