Germans are currently busy celebrating beer and music at their traditional annual carnival, Oktoberfest. And, Hyderabadis too will get a taste of The Great Indian Octoberbest (TGIOF) by Kingfisher from October 5-7. Originally conceptualised in Bengaluru in 2005, this Indian version of Oktoberfest will debut in the city with a lot of music, food and of course, beer.

“I remember visiting Germany around five years ago and attending the Oktoberfest. There were around five to six million people attending the carnival. The whole festival is about families coming together, meeting new people, and great music,” said actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, who signed a mug at a function on Wednesday to announce the launch of the desi version of the German fest in the city.

He further said, “I believe Hyderabad is ready for such a carnival — I have been in this city for a long time and seen the citizens embrace new cultures and the Oktoberfest is definitely a good way to meet new people, have a good time with families and also listen to some great musicians play.”

The three-day TGIOF will see a line-up of established and upcoming artists, bands and DJs showcasing their talent and helping people have a good time. Some of the known names include Indian Ocean, Shaa’ir + Func, Raghu Dixit and Agam, among others. “Music has no boundaries and I will try to attend the festival whenever I can in those three days just for music,” said Nagarjuna.

Apart from the music, Hyderabadis can also look forward to a lot of food, games, and flea markets at the three-day carnival.

So, if you are looking to have some fun this weekend, head over to N-Convention around 4 p.m for The Great Indian Octoberfest, which kick-starts on Oct 5 and concludes on Oct 7.

Tickets are priced at `899/per day and `2000 for three days. The event is open to everyone and there is no age limit. However, alcohol will not be served to those aged below 21. Tickets are available at N-Grill, N-Convention and can be booked through www.meraevents.com.
