New Delhi: Isak Chishi Swu, the Chairman of NSCN (I-M), landed in India on late Wednesday just a fortnight after the outfit's General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah came to India on his second visit to push the peace process with the Government of India.
Unlike Muivah, who landed in New Delhi from Amsterdam, Swu went straight to Nagaland under a veil of secrecy and heightened security after landing in Guwahati.
According to sources, Swu along with his wife and Mrs Muivah arrived in Guwahati by a flight from Bangkok and were escorted to Dimapur amid 'Z-plus' security cover owning to a threat perception from the rival NSCN (K) outfit. The NSCN (K) had earlier threatened to target Muivah if he dared set his foot in Nagaland.
A heavily-armed convoy of the Nagaland Police, headed by a senior police officer, was in charge of Swu's security. The police and NSCN (I-M) functionaries were, however, tightlipped about his visit.
The outfit, however, issued a press statement welcoming Swu to Nagaland. "We thank the Almighty God for safely bringing back home our Yaruiwo to us from his selfless sacrificial journey abroad for the cause of the Nagas and our nation. It is a day of jubilation and delight to be back among us our leader, which everyone at home, had been eagerly waiting for."
According to Dimapur-based Nagaland Post newspaper, Swu landed in Dimapur at around 2330 hours and was whisked away to an unknown destination. Muivah is currently camping in New Delhi waiting for meetings with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
