New Delhi: A thrilling clash in the women's finals at the Australian Open awaits us this Saturday with top seed and defending champion Serena Williams against comeback queen Justin Enna. Serena and Enna have played each other 13 times so far, but have never met in a grand slam final before.
It's the story that defines the Australian Open this year - yet another Belgian woman blazing the comeback trail - and like Kim Clijsters in the 2009 US Open, Justin Henin looks unstoppable in just her second tournament after a break of a year and a half. But she has a massive roadblock in her way - defending champion and World No 1 Serena Williams.
"It's more than a dream. I mean, I'm so happy to play against her because if I want to win another Grand Slam, I'll have to beat the best player of the world. And that's just the biggest challenge I could get," says Justin.
And rightly so. The two have fought many close battles - Serena getting the better of Henin in seven out of their 13 previous encounters. This though is the first time the two will face off at the Australian Open. And that too in the final.
In WTA finals though - the two have shared the spoils equally.
Serena got a bit lucky in her quarterfinal against Victoria Azarenka. But there is no doubt that she is the player to beat at this Slam. Serena will also be inspired to equal Billie Jean King's 12 Grand Slam titles. And she understands how tough her final frontier will be.
"She's a little more calm, but she's also kind of quiet intense. So I think you kind of have to be at the match to see it, how intense she really is. I think it's good. She says 'allez' a lot, so I think it's kind of fun," says Serena while asked about her opponent on eve of the final game.
So fasten your seat belts for a dose of smart play and power-hitting in this year's first grand slam final.
