KOCHI: The residents of Kaloor had a tough time as power supply was disconnected on Wednesday. The power supply was disrupted after the transformer near Kaloor junction caught fire. Fire and rescue officials rushed to the scene and doused the fire. The exact reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained as the fire and rescue officials who rushed to the scene and the KSEB officials gave contradictory statements on the cause of the fire. “The transformer caught fire as some locals were trying to set fire to the waste which was dumped under the transformer,” fire and rescue officials said. Whereas according to the KSEB officials, the transformer caught fire due to short circuit. After the incident,the traffic signals also became non-functional. The KSEB was working late into the night to restore power supply.
