KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has offered his support in finding a solution to many issues plaguing tribals in the state, when a group from Attappadi visited him on Tuesday morning.
The 20-member tribes group visited the KPCC chief at the party headquarters here and expressed their gratitude for being instrumental in initiating many steps to bring in a visible change in the infrastructure such as road development and drinking water supplies in the Attapadi area of Palakkad during his visit there a couple of months ago.
Ramesh had stayed in the tribal hamlets of Attapadi for two days in early June this year, for gaining a first-hand assessment of the plight of adivasis. He is bearing the education expenses of eight needy tribal students in the area, as he had promised during his visit.
The KPCC president assured the team that once a report comes from a special officer appointed to study the ground situation in Attappadi, from whom recommendations to alleviate the sufferings of tribesmen has also been sought, improvement measures is expected to be taken up in a big way with the support of State and Central funds.
The special officer was appointed by the State Government immediately after a demand was made by the KPCC chief, following his visit. He also told the team that he had asked Scheduled Tribe Welfare Minister to visit Attapadi and assured that he would visit the hamlets again in November.
