ADILABAD: Voters in Adilabad Assembly segment voted for Telangana sentiment rather than the candidate.At three places, polling started 30 minutes late--at the marketyard in Adilabad town, Chanda (T) in Adilabad mandal and Deepaiguda in Jainath mandal. EVMs did not work in the last 30 minute at Nirala village.There were nearly 620 weddings and other functions in the district on Sunday, out of which 230 were in Adilabad constituency, which caused great worry to contesting candidates. Also, the highest temperature of 40.2 degree C so far was recorded on Sunday.More than 500 voters’ names were missing in the constituency, mainly in the town, at Bhukthapur colony (60 voters) and at Dasnapur colony (80 voters). Residents of Bhukthapur colony gheraoed district collector A Ashok when he came for the inspection of the polling centre. Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists allegedly distributed money to Self-Help Group members seeking their votes. On Sunday morning, Balapur village SHG group members staged a dharna in front of a Congress leader’s house asking why their group was ignored while distributing money to SGH groups. The Cong leader reportedly escaped when police, learning about the incident, reached village.
