TV channels woo international buyers at MIPCOM
India is the country of honour at MIPCOM, in Cannes.

Cannes: Television shows maybe driving TRP's back home in India, but television channels like Sony, Zee and Sahara are trying their best to woo international buyers at MIPCOM.

So be it Sony's recently launched show Virrudh, or Sridevi's Malini Iyer from Sahara or the family drama Kittu Sab Janti Hain, different shows are attracting inquiries from different countries.

"We are tying up with two or three countries in South East Asia. China has shown interest in Viruddh. We have also got Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi and Kajjal, and we will tie up either to show our content,” says Head, Licensing and Telephony, Sony TV, Kaushal Modi.

Business Head, Sahara One, Sharang Sharma adds, “Our shows like Woh Rehne Walli Mahlon Ki, Kitu Sab Jaanti Hain and others have generated a lot of interest.”

And its not just Indian television content, Bollywood too is the buzzword at MIPCOM. If Venus is offering a set of its films, then Shemaroo Entertainment too is out there with its 600 plus Hindi film library

" Bollywood is so popular all over the world that we are getting enquires from all over from USA UK, Africa,” says VP, International Sales, Venus, Ashok Jain.

Director, Shemaroo Entertainment, Hiren Gada adds, “I cannot name all the countries but countries like France Russia, Germany, there is widespread interest.”

India is the ninth largest exhibitors at MIPCOM, and the increasing interest shown to Indian content is making many media companies sit up and take notice. So Next year Rajashri films, BAG films and Reliance Entertainment want to participate in a big way.
