Two die as car plunges into river

KALPETTA: A 60-year-old woman and her son died in a car accident at Kunnath bridge near Vythiri on Saturday morning. Six persons were injured in the accident.  According to Vythiri police, the car in which the deceased and their families were travelling plunged 12 metres into the river from the bridge at around 5.15 am.The deceased are Eliyamma alias Achamma and her son Jaison, 35, both hailing from Palchuram near Mananthavadi. Those injured include Jaison’s wife Ranjitha, 28, and son Aden, 2; Jaison’s brother Jayan, 31, and his wife Pristy, 28, their relative Moly and Fr Mathew Moothedam of Palchuram Chavara Church.According to the police, the family was one their way to Mananthavadi after visiting Jaison’s younger brother Fr Justin Vadakkel at Thalayolaparamba in Kottayam. Jaison was a guest lecturer at Mary Matha College, Mananthavadi. The police doubt that the driver might have fallen asleep and lost control over the vehicle.
