Srinagar: Two militants were among the three persons killed in militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces defused an IED, an official spokesman said on Saturday.
One civilian was killed and six others injured in a grenade explosion in Ganderbal area of the city on Saturday afternoon, the spokesman said.
Militants hurled the grenade towards a security bunker at Beehama Chowk, 27 km from Srinagar around 1250 IST which missed the intended target and exploded on the road injuring seven persons, he said.
One of the injured identified as Ghulam Mohammad Khan succumbed to injuries in Soura medical institute.
A Pakistani militant Azhar Iqbal of Lahore was killed in an encounter at Moh in Kulgam area of Anantnag district on Friday night, he said.
Two identity cards, one bearing Pakistani address and another a local address, were recovered from slain militant, official sources said, adding militant's appearance suggested that he was not a Kashmiri.
One AK rifle and some arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter, the spokesman said.
He added security forces detected a 2.5-kg IED in a gas cylinder. A bomb disposal squad was called in which destroyed the explosive in situ.
Another Pakistani militant identified as Abu Sufian was killed by security forces at Kidroo nallah in Doda district, the spokesman said, adding one pistol and a magazine were recovered from slain militant who was associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba
