THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The reconstitution of the sub-committees of Kerala University Syndicate has given control for the UDF in the functioning of the university.The Syndicate meeting on Monday reconstituted the various sub-committees with pro-UDF men as conveners of all the major sub-committees. LDF members were selected to head most of the minor sub-committees.Pro-LDF men were heading all the sub-committees constituted during the previous LDF Government’s tenure. This was done with the help of the brutal majority they had in the Syndicate. Kollam DCC secretary B S Jyothikumar will be the convener of the all-powerful finance sub-committee. M Jamal Kunju (examinations), M Jeevan Lal (planning, development and administrative reforms), Jolly Jacob (library and publications), B Suresh (seminar, conference and FIP), Varghese P O (UIT, teacher education, information centre) are the UDF Syndicate members elected as conveners of the sub-committees.The LDF members elected as sub-committee conveners are former MP P Rajendran (staff equipment and building), DYFI leader S.P.Deepak (affiliation committee) P S Sreekala (research and scholarship), P Raghunath (teaching, non-training staff of private colleges), P Mohanachandran Nair (student discipline) and SFI leader Chintha Jerome (student services).Earlier, the UDF could gain majority in the Syndicate by nominating five persons as experts from the higher education field in place of three persons nominated by LDF as experts of biotechnology, information technology and higher education. This was done by promulgating an ordinance to amend the university statute. The Syndicate meeting also decided to sanction new courses in aided colleges affiliated to the university for the academic year 2012-13.ENS The colleges have been asked to submit the applications for new courses before August 31.
