UP IAS officer accused of molesting woman sent to jail for 14 days
The lady alleged that IAS officer Shashi Bhushan Lal Susheel was staring at her and even touched her inappropriately.

Lucknow: An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre has been charged with attempt to rape following a complaint lodged by a woman. IAS officer Shashi Bhushan Lal Susheel was arrested on Monday morning for allegedly molesting a Google India executive while travelling on the Lucknow Mail from New Delhi to the Uttar Pradesh capital.

The lady accused Shashi Bhushan, Special Secretary in the Technical Education Department, of misbehaviour and indecent conduct on the journey. She alleged that Bhushan, who had boarded the train from Ghaziabad, was staring at her and even touched her inappropriately.

A case was registered against Shashi Bhushan for obscene act and outraging her modesty in Lucknow after the lady complained to the railway police. The General Reserve Police official in Lucknow was removed for not acting against the officer after the complaint filed by the woman.

But Shashi Bhushan claimed that the allegation was fabricated and accused the woman of using a casteist slur against him. He alleged that the woman was levelling the charges against him because he had an argument with her over her luggage.

"I accidentally dropped some of her luggage and we started arguing. She used a casteist slur against me," Bhushan said.

The IAS officer was sent to 14 days judicial custody by a court in Lucknow where he was produced under India Penal Code Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

Following the complaint, Bhushan was detained by the police and interrogated for almost four hours on Monday morning after the train reached the Charbhagh railway station in Lucknow before arresting him.
