UP Municipal Body Wants Beggars and Sex Workers to Pay Tax, Calls it ‘Caring Charge’
According to the proposal, the ‘Caring Charge’ will range from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000.

Lucknow: Fareedpur Nagar Palika Parishad in Bareilly district has made a proposal to seek tax from sex workers and beggars by terming it as ‘Caring Charge’.

According to the proposal, the ‘Caring Charge’ will range from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000.

Head of Fareedpur Nagar Palika Prishad, Poonam Gupta said that the final decision in this regard will be taken only after proper consultation and suggestions from the public.

Meanwhile, the proposal has already drawn flak from social organisations. Chetna Samiti, a social organisation has opposed the new tax and have raised question on the process of passing the proposal of the tax. They also pointed out that, if begging and prostitution is illegal, then how can tax be imposed on it.​
