V P Singh says Indo-US nuclear deal would not serve the interests of the country as India would become dependent on America.

Muzaffarnagar: Former Prime Minister V P Singh on Friday said the Indo-US nuclear deal would not serve the interests of the country as India would become dependent on America in the area in future.

The US Senate passed the deal with an overwhelming margin of 85 votes to 12. "The nuclear treaty is against the interest of the country. India will be dependent for it nuclear programme on the US in the future," he said.

Singh also said President's rule should be imposed in Uttar Pradesh before the Assembly election next year as "it is not possible to conduct a free and fair poll under the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government," he said.

He alleged that the government machinery worked under Samajwadi Party pressure during the recent civic body elections in the state and also accused the Government of putting obstacles in Jan Morcha's activities.

Morcha President Raj Babbar said if they came to power in UP, their government will fix the price of wheat at Re 1 per kg for the people living below poverty line. He announced the Mukti Sangram Yatra would start from Ghaziabad on December 8.
