V-Day: Bajrang plays moral police

BHUBANESWAR: Tension prevailed at Ekamra Kanan here when people, claiming to be members of Bajrang Dal hounded the couples inside the park on Tuesday afternoon. Around 25 self-styled moral police barged into the park and accosted the couples on Valentine’s Day, asking them not to observe the western culture. Initially they were prohibited from entering the park, but eventually they did manage to get in, but only after purchasing tickets. The Bajrang Dal members tried to approach every couple individually and asked them not to celebrate Valentine’s Day. One of the eyewitness claimed that the Dal members were insisting that couples observe the day as parents day instead. The couples fled the spot to avoid confrontation with the Dal members and any kind of embarrassment. When the police reached the spot, they rounded up the Dal members and detained four of them. They were released after a few hours, said Nayapalli police station IIC AK Kanungo.
